Radio frequency (RF) shielding reduces electromagnetic signals passing into or out of a space. In a shielded enclosure, the membrane, seams, doors, vents and service entries work together as part of a designed shielding boundary.
What Is a SCIF Barrier?
A SCIF barrier is a shielding material used within project-designed Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility assemblies. ULTRA NT SCIF Barrier is a flexible foil membrane supplied in rolls for the walls, ceilings and floors identified in the approved design.
Material selection, installation details and completed-enclosure acceptance follow the project requirements. Purchasing a shielding membrane does not by itself establish SCIF approval.
SOLID and PERFORATED RF Shielding Foil
ULTRA NT SOLID SCIF Barrier and ULTRA NT PERFORATED SCIF Barrier have separate documented test results. Both are supplied in 48 in x 125 ft rolls with 500 sq ft nominal area. Compare the applicable test report with the project's required frequency range and attenuation.
How to Read Shielding Effectiveness Results
Shielding effectiveness is reported in decibels (dB) at tested frequencies. Compare results using the same frequency range and pay attention to whether a value is a minimum, an average or a single-frequency result. Laboratory sample measurements do not guarantee the attenuation of a completed room.

Why Seams and Penetrations Matter
The installation must maintain the shielding boundary through sheet overlaps, corners and connections to shielded hardware. Follow the approved installation instructions and illustrated details, including conductive seam tape, penetration treatments, inspection and project-defined bonding.
Conductive Tape, Caulk and Attachment Adhesive
Conductive foil tape and conductive caulk serve different interface functions. Attachment adhesive holds material to its backing; it does not replace the project-specified electrical seam bond. Non-conductive foil tape should be used only for approved auxiliary functions.
